PLA products:

Amongst the other bioplastics PLA, which is usually made of maize, is produced in very large volumes and has competitive price on the market. 

Until now it has almost been impossible to produce properly transparent rigid film from biomass. Now thanks to the latest technology (new fermentation process) they are able to produce this material as an alternative of PE

According to the latest examinations and experiences the PLA packaging can enlarge the shelf life of the fruits and vegetables to 3 days. From marketing point of view it is very effective to pack bio food into bioplastics.

Main characteristics:

• A sustainable alternative to PE,PS or PET
• Biodegradable (45-60ºC: 12-16 months)
• Flexible in shape, size and thickness and can be produced as a film
• Heat resistant (up to 40°C)
• Good puncture resistance
• Transparent and glossy (crystal clear - looks like PET), resist to fat, oil and alcohol
• Very good (8 times bigger) barrier properties and it is recommended for moisture-sensitive products
• Can also be processed easily on standard equipment that already exists for the production of conventional plastics
• Has got very good adhesive properties (on low temperature)
• Can be printed without any pre treatment
